Dr. Richard Arias-Hernandez embarked on his academic journey with a B.Sc. in Systems and Computing Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes, where he developed a strong foundation in computing and industrial systems. He continued his education at the same institution, earning an M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering, further refining his analytical and problem-solving skills. His academic curiosity led him to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he obtained a Ph.D. in Science and Technology Studies (STS), focusing on the interplay between technology, society, and information systems.

Currently serving as an Associate Professor of Teaching at the School of Information (UBC iSchool), Faculty of Arts, University of British Columbia (UBC), Dr. Arias-Hernandez has been actively shaping the future of information studies since July 1, 2022.
